Choosing Outdoor Lighting

Outdoor lighting is one of the first things that visitors see when visiting your home at night. Having the correct lighting extends a warm and inviting feel and guides people to your home safely.

Planning your Garden Lighting

For the most part wires and cables are going to have to be run underground to light up your garden. For this we recommend getting a qualified electrician. Having a plan in mind beforehand will save you money in the long-run and help you get the most out of your garden at night in a quicker time-frame. If you would like to talk to our qualified electrician for tips and pointers please give us a call on (094) 90 359 60. We recommend giving us a quick call before visiting  to avoid disappointment.

Outdoor Lighting

Lighting up a pathway and features

Pathway lighting can be extremely important at night to avoid falls. Solar lights are an option but will depend on sunlight, which may not be sufficient during the winter.

A simple line of low lights facing down on a footpath, hooked up to the mains, can spread the light and prove to be very effective. Bollard lights are another popular option.

Features such as trees can look beautiful during the day, however at night if not lit up won’t be seen at all. By shining an up-lighter into trees or other garden features you can really bring a garden to life

Deck Lighting

,Deck lighting has got very popular over the past number of years. Deck spots can be useful way to guide people onto the decking.

Rope lighting can provide atmosphere without over doing the lighting.

One thing to keep in mind is keeping bugs and midges away. By placing a light up high it can act as a means of directing these unwanted visitors away from the area where you would like to sit.

If you use your decking as a place to have barbeques, it is important to have adequate light so as to avoid accidents when cooking.

Lighting up a driveway or entrance

Two lampposts on either side of an entrance is a popular choice as are two pillar lights.

If you have a long entrance it is suggested that fittings are placed at points where there is a change in direction or an obstacle that drivers should be aware of.

What is recommended it that a light is placed 10 - 15 feet apart on alternating sides of the drive. It is important not to over-do lighting leading up to a home as it can give a runway effect.

Another effective idea that can be used is drive on spot lights. Walk on spots lights are also available for footpaths.

Lanterns

Lanterns are often used either side of a door as a means of lighting up the main entrance.

The general rule is to choose fittings that are one quarter the size of the door.

In situations where one lantern is being used lanterns one third the size of the door is recommended. When in doubt make it larger.
